This photography class is the first in the program!! This class will consist of not only learning basic operating skills of 35mm cameras but also I will put together a scavenger hunt throughout downtown Manitou. The first hour of the class will be held in the classroom where I will go over basic operations and mechanics of 35mm cameras. I will go over simple topics such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. I will go over loading and unloading film, focusing, basic light understanding, focal lengths, and tips.

After the operations portion I will hand out shots lists and send out the students in Manitou on a mission! I will make the scavenger hunt quite vague but will include shots to get like “something with a vintage door knob”, “something with a mannequin”... etc. I will have the students run about for an 1 or 2 hours.

At the second class of developing film we will look through the shots and count up who has the most of the scavenger hunt shots! I will give a prize of 2 free rolls of film to whomever wins!

Before the Class: Before the class I will ask students to prepare to bring a 35mm camera, bring 2 rolls of black and white 35mm ISO 400 film Ilford HP5. I will ask them to check if the battery is working and to email me if they do not understand how to check if the battery for the light meter is working. If they own a light meter and want to bring that, that is great! If they do not have access to a camera we can loan the student one from the MAC or from my personal collection for the day.
